Notes from a grand continent

Notebook: Africa is the blog of Abe McLaughlin, writer for The Christian Science Monitor who recently moved to Johannesburg with his wife to write about the 49 developing nations of sub-Saharan Africa.

"My overarching questions for reporting on Africa include: Can Africa - or parts of it - join the world's rush to globalization and greater wealth? Who should solve Africa's problems - outsiders or Africans themselves? And what can the rest of the world learn from Africa?"

I am such an idiot!!!!!

People don't have to do much to have you lable them an idiot. The young checker at the grocery store on her first day trying to figure out a new computer system is labled an idiot for taking 10 seconds instead of 5 to scan your things. People who wait exactly 1.8 seconds to go on a green light, instead of the expected 1.5. "What took you so long? 1.8 seconds? Everyone else here only takes 1.5 seconds. Yeah, thanks to you I'm going to be 0.3 seconds behind all day!"
